Free WiFi on Trains Next Year: Solution Delivered by T-Systems Hungary

Free WiFi on Trains Next Year: Solution Delivered by T-Systems Hungary T-Systems Hungary supplies the wireless network components to enable MÁV-Start trains to provide free wireless internet to passengers.

Right now there is only one railway line that offers free internet (Budapest-Keleti - Miskolc - Nyíregyháza - Debrecen - Szolnok - Budapest-Nyugati), but from next year all InterCity and all suburban trains will be equipped with WiFi capabilities.

In the public procurement tender called by MÁV-Start Zrt., Magyar Telekom was selected and T-Systems Hungary will play a key role in the technological implementation. Technical preparatory works have already begun in the railway carriages to enable WiFi capabilities, and the next few months will see the installation of routers in 735 carriages.

On-board wireless internet offering 7.2 Mbps maximum bandwidth, which is primarily suitable for writing e-mail and visiting websites will be available free of charge in all carriages. According to MÁV, as a result of the investment fifty million passengers will have access to internet on these lines each year. Stickers on the side of the carriages will indicate if a train is WiFi-enabled
