Sirocco Became the Best among the Classics at the 45th Blue Ribbon Race

For the 45th time, the Hungarian Sailing Association held the Blue Ribbon sailing race this year on 25-27 July with the joint sponsorship of T-Systems Hungary and Magyar Telekom.

Blue Ribbon The Blue Ribbon is Europe's oldest sailing race along the longest course; while since 2009, it has also been known as the largest lake race. Course: Balatonfüred – Balatonkenese – Tihany – Keszthely – Balatonfüred, length: 160 km. Starting on Thursday, the 155 km round-the-lake Blue Ribbon race was concluded after Saturday's last chance to cross the finish line by the grand award ceremony in Balatonfüred in the evening.

The round-the-lake race saw 512 entrants with 337 reaching the finis line within the 48-hour allotted time. A whole separate battle was fought between the three 75-meter siblings, the Sirocco, the Lillafüred and the Nemere II. Finally, the winner of the Classics this year was once again the 75 m Sirocco skippered by Lajos Cittel: ranked absolute 14th, they boat the finish line at 06:18; being the most successful single trapeze timber boat built before 1945, the Sirocco also won the new Silver Ribbon '75 award established by the Eudutus College. This is the last time when only single trapeze boats were allowed to enter the Blue Ribbon since the category restrictions, which limited entries every odd year, will no longer be applicable from 2014.
