The Customer

The university’s medical institutes have three main clinical blocks and close to 40 separate units, which can receive patients: monthly 130 000 outpatients and 9 000 in-patients. On this basis alone the university ensures 5% of the Hungarian population’s healthcare needs.
In the institutes of the Semmelweis University, the medical care is performed with 2600 beds, ensuring the services for those who wish to heal and chronic plus rehabilitation services.

The challenge

It was a priority of the Semmelweis University to extend and to develop its patient care activities, and it is considered the biggest Hungarian healthcare institute.
Comparing data from 2002, dynamic development has taken place in the numbers of patient care, since volume has increased in the next 2-3 years by almost 10% and the number of treated cases comes close to 1 500 000 in the Semmelweis University institutes annually.

The solution

ISH Kft. – legal predecessor of T-Systems Hungary Ltd. - has won the procurement procedure of Semmelweis University in 2004. The e-MedSolution system was implemented in the complete clinical centre.

At the present the system is used by more than 5 000 nominated users at the same time utilizing the full range of the treatment work processes.
We have implemented the GLIMS laboratory system of the Belgian MIPS company.
The AGFA PACS system was introduced in the radiology, heart and vascular surgery, transfusiology and children clinics. Specialty of this implementation; Philips SpeechMagic speech recognition system was introduced in some radiology workstations.

Besides of these above an SAP system with financial, logistics modules together with the HR module were implemented. This SAP system is interfaced with the eMedSolution. Due to this integration the cost of treatment, the stock levels can be fully traced.

The integration of the HIS, LIS, ERP, PACS, SAP and Pharmacy systems was also completed.

The customer benefit

As the largest medical university in Hungary, main focus was on the integrated system concept. With the robust operation of eMedSolution and all integrated external systems, the Single Sign-on (SSO) method has been achieved on the clinical level.
The integrated operation of SAP and eMedSolution ensures total cost control of the clinical activities.
